- Illinois, IL: Kei trucks in Illinois can be classified as either antique or special-use vehicles and can be driven under local ordinances with a speed limit of 35 mph.
- Indiana, IN: Japanese mini trucks in Indiana can be driven on public streets and highways but is not permitted on an interstate.
- Ohio, OH: Kei trucks in Ohio, through local ordinances, can be on public roads with a posted limit of less than 35 miles per hour.
- Kansas, KS: Japanese mini trucks in Kansas can be used on public roads, except on highways and interstates, if a local ordinance permits them.
- Michigan, MI: As of late 2024, mini-trucks can be registered for road use.
- Minnesota, MN: Kei trucks in Minnesota can only be used in municipalities with local ordinances that permit their use for limited use.
- Missouri, MO: Japanese mini trucks can be driven in Missouri by local ordinance and are restricted to a 45 mph speed limit.
- Nebraska, NE: Japanese mini trucks can be used on public roads except freeways, expressways, and interstates in Nebraska.
- North Dakota, ND: Japanese mini trucks can be used on roads with a posted speed limit of 55 mph or less in North Dakota.

Kei Truck, Road Legal
A 25-year-old Kei truck can be road-legal in up to 45 states with a 55 mph limit by using Dirt Legal's services to obtain registration and Montana plates for out-of-state residents. Contact Dirt Legal for more information.

- Iowa, IA: In Iowa, mini trucks can not be registered for road use.
- South Dakota, SD: In South Dakota, Kei trucks can be registered as street-legal UTVs with a speed limit of up to 65 mph.
