The Nissan Clipper Kei truck represents an exciting chapter in the world of kei trucks in Japan, known for its versatility and unique charm! This fantastic nameplate has evolved through time, first introduced as a rebadged version of Prince's "Clipper" light and medium-duty commercial vehicles back in 1954.
First-Gen Nissan Clipper 2003–2013
In a brilliant move, Nissan revived the Clipper nameplate in 2003, rebranding the Mitsubishi Minicab, which is a popular kei truck and microvan produced under a special agreement. The Clipper truck and van received a stylish facelift in 2012, and it was wonderful to see these models categorized as the NT100 Clipper (truck) and NV100 Clipper (van), showcasing Nissan’s commitment to innovation!
Second-Gen Nissan Clipper 2013–2025
In late 2013, the Clipper lineup took another fantastic turn with the introduction of rebadged Suzuki Carry and Every models, ensuring Nissan’s dedication to providing vehicles that meet evolving needs. Enthusiastically looking to the future, we can expect the Minicab EV-based Clipper EV to come to life in 2024, paving the way for sustainable driving experiences!
The Nissan Clipper History
Now, let’s take a delightful step back in history. The Clipper story kicked off with the inspiring AKTG Prince Cabover truck in May 1954, quickly followed by the introduction of the 1.5-liter AQTI series in October 1958, featuring a distinctive front design applauded for its six oval cooling openings.
In February 1961, the AQTI model was enhanced with a robust 1.9L GB-4 engine, later dubbed the G-2, and reintroduced as the BQTI. By 1963, the BQTI embraced a sleek redesign, boasting quad headlights and a powerful lineup, offering the impressive T630 and the dynamic T631 Super Clipper, which delivered even more horsepower!
The journey continued in 1965, with the T631 reimagined and reborn as the T65. Post the merger between Nissan and Prince, this popular truck was rebranded as the T655 in 1967, further solidifying its presence in Nissan dealerships. With its unique design and the powerful 2.0L Nissan H20 four-cylinder engine, the T655 remains a proud symbol of Nissan’s legacy in Japan’s automotive industry!
