Kei Truck Registration
New York, Pennsylvania,, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, & Rhode Island
25 YO + Kei Truck Vehicle Registration, Northeastern U.S.
- Connecticut, CT: Kei trucks in Connecticut can be registered at your local DMV for street-legal commercial or personal use on public roads.
- Massachusetts, MA: Japanese mini trucks will be allowed on the public streets in the state of Massachusetts from September 2024.
- New Hampshire, NH: Mini trucks are street-legal in New Hampshire with a 35 mph speed restriction. These vehicles must be driven within 25 mi of the driver’s residence or business.
Road-Legal Kei Truck
A 25-year-old Kei truck can be driven in up to forty-five states with a speed limit of up to 55 mph by utilizing Dirt Legal's services to obtain Kei truck registration and Montana plates for out-of-state residents. Contact Dirt Legal for more info.

Mini Trucks For Off-Road, Northeastern U.S.
- New Jersey, NJ: Kei trucks cannot be registered for road use in New Jersey.
- New York, NY: Kei trucks in New York can not be registered as road-legal.
- Maine, ME: Maine’s Legislative Document (LD) 1209, passed in May 2025, did not fully legalize mini trucks for general road use.
- Pennsylvania, PA: Mini trucks cannot be registered for road use in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Rhode Island, RI: Japanese mini trucks for sale are prohibited on public streets throughout Rhode Island
- Vermont, VT: Mini trucks cannot be licensed for road use in Vermont.
